7lb walleye was caught by Jim Hoeffler of Stillwater Minnesota. Jim
and his son were guests of mine. Jim was a very NICE guy and it was
an absolute pleasure to take him and his son Evan out for a day of Walleye
fishing. We fished on the Mighty Mississippi. It was very warm with
little wind and a lot of light. We had to work to catch fish.
Jim caught this nice walleye on a number seven gold deep diving shad
rap. He was presenting his lure in about 6 feet of water when it slammed
the bait. Jim did a fine job fighting the fish and hauling it to the
boat. I think Jim’s son Evan was equally excited about the fish.
Although Evan did not catch a walleye, he was very happy about the big
white bass he caught (which can be viewed in the photo archive) and
had an overly enthusiastic attitude toward fishing. I was very impressed
with him.
As I mentioned above, this walleye was caught while TROLLLING along
a steep structure situation. It is key to fish sharper structures this
time of year for walleyes. It provides the fish with immediate access
to the shallows (feeding areas) and immediate access right back to his
home (the deep water).
