42 in. Musky

Although I have caught larger muskies this year, this one is special because of its behavior before the bite and the girth of the fish. I saw this fish roll up in the weeds 4 times before it struck. It was awesome! I was by myself and I was going nuts watching this fish attack smaller fish – it was like a scene from jaws. I had cast several times right at it during its rampage, but it didn’t bite at first. What ended up doing it for me was switching presentations and simply waiting a few minutes for it to slow down (slow down from chasing little fish that is). I got far away from the fish and made a long cast through the area with a top water lure and created a very slow wake with my bait. My lure finally caught the attention of the musky and it followed it for about 10 yards and then slammed it. I proceeded to land the fish after a lengthy fight. Again, the reason this one was very special to me was because I saw it and had to somehow figure out how to get it in the boat after it had already been feeding on some other prey. It was a great learning experience.
